Defeate
Although I am not going reach any of my goals for my project I still have learned a lot of stuff. First after you have bought some traps before even use them you have to prepare them. Traps new come in with an oil finnish to keep them from rusting during transportation. You have to remove this coating because fur bearers have a very acute sense of smell. To remove the coating you boil the traps in water then let the water cool, the oil will settle on top. To prevent you from lifting the traps back through the oil you pour more water into the pot so all of the oil will spill over. Problem, now you have traps that have no protective coating that will rust easily. You can solve this by purchasing a rust inhibitor made for such a purpose, but a simpler method is using a natural oil like peanut or walnut. To extract the oil you need to re boil the traps in water with your peanuts or walnuts. After you boil the traps you don't pour in more water to pour off the oil, you want the oil on the traps, so you just lift the traps through the oil.

330's!
Although I have not been doing to much towards this project I still have done a bit. My uncle has two 330 connibears that will give me. These are the largest connibears that you can buy. They are made for trapping beavers, otters, coyote, wolverine, bobcat, and lynx. These are much larger than any of the traps that I have. I have just the place to use these large traps. This summer we purchased a quarter section as a hunting property. We already knew the area was teeming with coyote, later we found out that there was a small beaver swamp on our land. and that our land backs onto a massive 150-200 acre swamp full of beavers. These traps are perfect for catching some coyote and beaver. This uncle said that he would help me get started.

Trapper Education
I am not the greatest at grammar or spelling so please forgive me. We were given this semester long assignment on any topic or idea that we wanted, we were pretty much given no guidelines besides that we had to write a blog about it. Coming from a family of hunters and already being a hunter myself I thought it would be a good idea to do my project on trapping, since i like the out doors. Trapping is already in my family my great uncle traps, an uncle traps, and a grandparents brothers still traps for a living. although i do not plan on trapping for a living I would like it to be one of my hobbies.
In my project I first plan on reading the Manitoba Trapper Education Program Manual. these manuals have everything that you could be tested on and are available at any Manitoba conservation and water stewardship building and it might be on their website. Then go and hopefully get my trappers license. The test is a fifty question multiple choice test and you have to get eighty percent to pass. If I do not pass the first time I will try again until I get it. Although when I started reading I came across a page on a three day course and it's schedule this course is an evening course. I am interested in the course and am going to look into getting myself into one. after I get my trappers license i plan on trying to catch some fur bearers, skin them, and stretch the hides for auction.
I have not gotten to far with reading the manual but plan on doing more in the near future. I also have a few other books that I had from before. they are mostly about how to trap and don't have much relevance until after I get my license. The books will teach me about how to successfully catch fur bearers. How to skin the animals, how to flesh the animals, and how to stretch the hides. the books that i have are successful conibear trapping, this book teaches me different setups for conibears and how to use them successfully. conibears are a specific type of trap ofter referred to as body grippers or grippers. they are made to be more humane than the traditional foothold trap.Conibears are meant to kill the animal instantly. My second book is Guide To Trapping this book is a more in depth book on trapping, preparing the hides, preparing the traps and the rest of the process. And my last book is a Beginner's Guide to Hunting and trapping Secrets. I don't really know what this book is about bur i an sure that it contains valuable information.
I really hope my idea of trapping will work out. I am not really sure where to go with this I just hope that I Learn lots.
